Welcome to My Practice: Meet Mr. Kunasingam

Transcript

Hello, I'm Kumar Kunasingam, a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in foot and ankle conditions. I practice across Surrey, London, and Kent - helping patients return to comfortable, active lives. This video introduces my background; my approach; and what you can expect from my care. I trained at Guy's and St Thomas's Hospital in London; before completing specialist fellowship training in Sydney, Australia. There, I learned minimally invasive surgical techniques, and had the privilege of helping to look after athletes at all levels. I also completed a trauma fellowship at King's College London, one of the UK's leading major trauma centres. This double fellowship training gives me expertise across both planned surgery and complex trauma cases. I also founded, and now lead the foot and ankle unit at Croydon University Hospital - bringing these skills to patients in both NHS and private settings throughout the South East. These experiences shaped my philosophy of care. I believe in combining the latest evidence-based techniques with clear communication, ensuring you understand your condition and all available options before making treatment decisions together. My practice covers the full range of foot and ankle conditions, from bunions and heel pain; to Achilles injuries; and foot and ankle trauma. I also hold a Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine - which helps me understand the specific demands placed on feet and ankles during sport and fitness endeavours. This includes the needs of all athletes from elite to amateur. I am particularly passionate about minimally invasive, or keyhole, surgery. I teach these techniques internationally, and have published research on keyhole bunion surgery outcomes. These methods typically allow smaller incisions, less tissue disruption, and faster recovery. Many procedures are performed as day cases, meaning you return home the same day. Having played university and club rugby and hockey - and still playing club hockey today, I understand how frustrating foot and ankle problems can be for active people. I have also coached rugby and hockey, which helps me appreciate the physical and mental stresses carried by athletes of all ages, including younger athletes in particular. I see patients at several hospitals across Surrey, London and Kent. Including - North Downs Hospital in Caterham - Ashtead Hospital near Epsom - Shirley Oaks Hospital in Croydon - and the Lister Hospital in London. This means you can choose a location convenient for you, with consistent care from me throughout your treatment journey. Communication is central to everything I do. I take time to listen to your concerns, explain your diagnosis clearly, and involve you in every decision. Your treatment journey should feel collaborative, not confusing. If you are experiencing foot or ankle problems - and would like to discuss your options, please contact my team to arrange a consultation. I look forward to helping you on your journey to better foot health.
